CHT chairman takes ‘early retirement’

CHT chairman takes ‘early retirement’

August 21, 2016

Tan Hochen, chairman of Taiwan-based Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has resigned from his post to take an early retirement.

CHT’s largest shareholder, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), has appointed CHT’s president Shyue-ching Lu as the company’s new chairman.

It is rumoured that Hochen was pushed into early retirement by the MOTC.

Lu’s place will be taken by Shaio-Tung Chang, a senior vice president at CHT.

CHT is the biggest telecoms company in Taiwan; its largest shareholders are the Taiwanese government.

Lucrative pay means that chairmanship of CHT is a much sought after position, especially by Taiwanese politicians.
